Rwanda & Uganda 5 Days Gorilla Trekking Itinerary
Description
There’s a wealth of adventure to be had in both Uganda and Rwanda, especially now that tourists are beginning to rediscover this region. We keep this trip small and intimate to create a deep connection with this captivating land. Of course, there’ll be trekking to spot chimps and gorillas, and wildlife drives through Queen Elizabeth National Park to see elephants and hippos, but we’ll also visit the genocide museum for a closer look at the recent history of the region. Trust us: Uganda and Rwanda will stay in your memory for a very long time.
Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met by our representative and you will be transferred to your Kigali Hotel for overnight. Overnight: Dmall Hotel (Bed and Breakfast)
Dmall Hotel
Dmall Hotel is designed in an individualized, untrammeled and diversified concept. It gives the guests an enjoyable home like feeling while travelling. It is fully equipped with accommodation, catering, business center, gym and shopping facilities.
Today with a lunch en route, you will drive to the north of Rwanda, cross the Uganda border and proceed to Bwindi National park.Overnight: Engagi Lodge. (Full Board)
Engagi Lodge
Engagi Lodge in Bwindi National Park has been built using local materials including rocks found in and around the site and eucalyptus trees. The rooms are tchatched from banana fibre sourced from local farmers. Its beautiful cottages have private verandahs where guests can enjoy their morning tea or coffee as they watch out the forest canopy.
Following an early breakfast, transfer to the national park offices where you will be allocated a gorilla family as well as a gorilla tracking guide. After a pre-tracking briefing by your guide touching on the gorillas generally, your assigned gorilla family as well as safety precautions, you drive to the trailhead for the start of a thrilling adventure. Expect to walk between 2 and 8 hours in steep and sometimes muddy conditions with rain overhead, which can be tough and require a degree of (average) fitness. However the thrill of coming face to face with a giant mountain gorilla silverback completely makes up the effort!
(Full Board)
Please remember to bring your passport for registration, appropriate water proof hiking boots and a light rain coat. To protect from stinging nettles, we recommend long pants and long sleeved tops. A pair of old gardening gloves can help grabbing onto the vegetation while most hotels/lodges provide a walking stick that come in very handy especially when hiking downhill. A small waterproof backpack is an excellent idea to carry a light snack, bottled water as well as protection for your camera. After the trek, join your driver guide for a transfer back to your lodge. Overnight: Engagi Lodge.
UToday, you will have a city tour of Kigali including a visit to the Genocide Museum a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocent’s lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide and how this country has dealt with that past. Tour more and see the new developments in Rwanda.
